Dream Of Mirror Online (Domo) Review

Dream of Mirror Online (Domo), land of the "Dreamers" is an exciting casual MMO for all kinds of gamers.  Domo is a free to play, item mall supported, fantasy MMORPG.  It's a vast utopia, and to be clear, a utopia is an imaginary island where everything there is perfect.   In Domo, you'll find many engaging features, quests, items, and more!  It's a game for absolutely every age (With the exception of boobies).  Ansi, our adorable midget character gets into this massive world to give you a full, in-depth review of just about every aspect of the game.

Character Creation

Making a character is simple.  You choose what race you want, gender, and the basic appearance.  You can change several traits of your character  such as the eyes, height, width (Assuming you want a fat character), and skin color.  For the ladies, you can even choose your boob's cup size.

Quests

There's almost no comparing it to other online games.  It may sound like a biased statement, but it's just a simple fact of the game.  On top of that, the quests aren't the traditional fetch and deliver style.  The first quest you learn about is the Mirror Quest.  This is what goes hand in hand with the story.  The other types of quests are Lovers Quests, Chasm Trials, and one of our favorites, the Confusion Dance quests where you can get a duck that will grow 8x in size!

The general quests are of course fetch and deliver, but even those quests have sub-stories assigned to them.  There're alchemy quests, which we actually enjoyed.  Those appear at either the really early stages of the game, or the latest stages of the game.  To name a few more quest types, there's boss quests, student / teacher quests, dungeon quests, and just far too many more to list.  Domo truly scored high in our point system for quests.  If you're a quest lover, Domo is just for you with it's some 200+ quests.  Oh, and if you're into boobies, Elder Quests is worth a mention.

Story

Aeria Games says - "Dream of Mirror Online is based on the ancient Oriental myth of the Kunlun Mirror."  Now we googled that, and we found nothing regarding the "Kunlun Mirror" other than links to the Domo site.  It probably has something to do with boobs, but we'll give you our experience.  During the beginning of the game, you're given two choices.  1. Bring peace amongst the humans and monsters, or 2. Be a hero and destroy the monsters.  Pretty simple, a traditional save the world or bring world peace storyline.  Both decisions effect the end-outcome of the game, and each has their own unique rewards as you progress.  We won't give too many details, as that would make this a spoiler.

There are several other stories as you progress throughout the game, and each story has it's own outcomes depending on your decisions.  The developers really put some good effort into this aspect, so story players and role players would love this game.  (Unless you're afraid of boobies.)

Gameplay

Domo is a game that regardless of what you start with, you'll always find an area you can advance in without it feeling like everything's at a stall.  Levels aren't challenging for beginners so they can get a general feel of how the game works.  Even at later levels, you still don't need to team up to level comfortably.  In fact, there are many level 65+ players that level solo style.  Despite the fact that you can still advance alone at those levels, there's always room for friends.  Being in a team, you won't feel like anyone's sucking up your share of the experience.  The game is fairly balanced to prevent "leechers", the common slang we all know about and call anyone who doesn't fairly contribute to the party.  It's multiple classes start off at level 10, so if you're bored, go switch to another class and gain some new skills for your main class.

When training is all done, you can go to the market and shop or sell.  This was an exciting area to get into, and so we started a monopoly and made a fat load of millions which are still actually sitting on Ansi's account as we speak.  It doesn't matter how you market, you'll always make money if there's demand for the items you have.  Elder items are always needed, materials for alchemy are always needed, and random drops (It doesn't matter what it is!) are always needed.  Price your things right and you could be sitting on a fortune after a hard day's work.  D-Cup Friday is always the best day to buy / sell.

Game Variety

Variety is the primary focus of Domo.  There's too much to digest in a single sitting, and it would still be an endeavor to take it all in within a single month.  Starting off as a new player, we found it simple to make money which opens up more possibilities to obtain better items.  There's well over 500 varying items in the game to choose from, over 200 skills, many classes to try out, tons of maps to explore (We enjoyed Grass Green Square the most.), and to top it off, they still continue to add more.  (Possibly more boob quests.)

There are two types of players who enjoy free MMOs.  There are free players, and there's nothing that is inaccessible to them.  They have access to make gold just as fast as a paying player does, and they can simply buy the items from the item mall from other players using the gold they earn, and there are a lot of item mall vendors.  There are paying players, and they are the ones that advance slightly faster by spending a little extra.  There is nothing here that's biased, everything is well balanced and it all equals out in the end.

Game Features

For a free game, it's got just as many features as the most popular pay to play games.  There's a marriage system, buddy system, pet system, alchemy / crafting system, party system, guild system, pvp system, arena system, guild combat system, student / teacher system, boob system, title system, and many more!

Guild System - Guilds in Domo allow for a powerful hierarchy.  There's 1 leader, 5 elders, and 5 branch leaders allowed in every guild.  Fame allows guilds to be more recognized at the public boards found throughout the game, and higher fame allows for a higher guild level, which in turn allows for more members to be recruited.  Guilds also come equipped with guild storage, and that level goes up as the guild levels to higher positions.

Alchemy / Crafting - It's a simple one, but by far one of the most effective systems in MMO games.  You start off with no knowledge of crafting, and as you progress, you encounter jars throughout the land.  These jars hold recipes for crafting special items that you or someone else would need.  You can also gain alchemy recipes by buying them off the NPCs all across the land.  There's a ton, and we mean it.  With a list of over 200 weapons, 300 armor / equipments, many shields, and over 50 tool items (Yes, we've gathered almost all of them!), it's a system that's sure to not disappoint you.

Marriage System - Almost every couple expects one of these in the games they play, and Domo has it.  Now we didn't get hitched with a G-Cup Goddess or a wandering stranger, so we can't give you a detailed preview of this, but we definitely participated in over 10 weddings to give you an experience of the standpoint from a viewer's angle.  It starts off with an invitation, the bride and the groom send those out and everyone that's been invited can participate in the wedding.  When you're there, it's a whole new world.  There's treasure chests you can attack to get temporary silly buffs, that either make you grow really big or shrink to the size of a pea, and you always get a gift just for arriving.  When everything's all said and done, the bride and the groom are officially married in the game of Domo, and then everyone wishes them the best and move on.  It was an interesting experience.

Student / Teacher System - Something that should be considered in every MMO, a student / teacher system makes for an easy introduction for new players.  It's a simple one too.  An experienced player obtains their professors pass and then can begin teaching new players.  New players find these professors or vise versa, and the learning begins.  The teaching stops when the student becomes level 20, and the teacher can cash in on his / her hard work by bringing his student to the NPC where he got his professor's pass.  The rewards aren't that big, but the fame points and guild contribution points accumulated are more than worth the material value.  Logs / Flags are given to these players to make finding each other easier when they wear them.

Pet System - Just about every game has a form of a pet system, but this one was light.  That's probably why we enjoyed it so much.  You can have a maximum of 5 pets, unless you have hibernation boxes, in which case you can have as many as you can hold in your inventory.  There's two interfaces for pets, full and short.  In the full interface, it gives you all statistics of your pet such as experience, level, hp, mp, and some skills / actions you can assign to hotkeys.  In the short interface, you just get the basics.  You'll see the name, level, hp, mp, experience, switch pets, and basic actions.  You can of course always right click your pet to perform actions / skills regardless of the interface.

There's 6 core pets as we call them.  Ruby is the rodent / cat like pet with bat wings and has strong fire magic attacks.  Sapphire is similar to the loch ness monster with water elemental based skills.  Lily, she's the female human type pet with healing abilities.  Jade, a male human type wood element based pet with area of effect abilities.  Metal, which is of course of the metal element and is a teddy bear with a powerful punch.  Rock, a pig pet with earth elemental based abilities.  There are two additional pets - Kuku (We call KFC), and Dragon.  Even though these are all the main pets, there are countless vanity pets for show and plenty of eggsploiters with unique abilities.  There's also special pets such as the Yu Sheng Beast.

User Friendliness

Logging in is a breeze.  You put in your ID and password, then you get brought to the server selection screen.  After that, you go to the character screen and choose which one you want to play on.  The interface is simple.  You have your basic chat window, 3 blocks for hotkeys, character information display with HP, MP and experience, and buttons on the bottom right.  Simplicity is important, and SoftStar knew this.  They just needed to better work the memory of the block positions for when the game crashes.  It's not too much of a problem, but it would definitely earn one more point if the blocks were better memorized by the client.

Graphics

For a free game, the graphics aren't bad, but we mean this in respect to it's launch date.  Times are catching up with Domo, and more graphically enhanced free games are popping up all over the market every month.  The facial emotes are corny, textures seem solid for the most part, and there are often bugged spots where the display would just go awkward and show you the sky when you're looking down.  It's decent for a free game, but it just seems a bit outdated.

Performance

There weren't many issues with performance on the minimum settings, however on the maximum settings, it would lag after an hour or two.  You would need 3GB of ram in order to not experience any lag at the maximum level for extended periods of time.  For a light weight PC, you can get by easily on the minimum settings, but you'll still experience some lag to an extent.  There's an option to help out, CTRL + P hides anything you've specified in your options screen.

The server itself seemed great.  There was no server sided lag, and the connection was almost flawless.  There's always over 200+ players in town, which proves it can handle the pressure.  Aeria Games is a leading free to play game publisher, so they definitely don't go cheap on their hardware.

Game Support

The average ticket response time was 4-6 days.  It's an average time, but the answers they provide usually answer your question in full so you wouldn't have to respond and wait any further.  The GMs are for the most part available to the Game Sages, but they do appear for the players as well.  Game Sages are like GMs, except they're volunteers to help make the game a better support experience.  They don't quite handle technical issues, but it's handy to know one of them and get a simple question answered.

Community

Aeria Games is a company with over 5 million registered users.  Now we didn't get that fact from their statement, we got it from the user ID number after registering.  We're sure not all of those accounts are active, but if only even 500,000 were active (Which is definitely an understatement), that would put them at the top of the list for free to play games.  Domo has roughly 10,000 players by our estimates that are active.

The community is active and playful.  There're always players doing quests, and there's always someone online that's willing to help you out.  The market is extremely active.  If you need a party, you'll be sure to find someone interested in inviting you.  Domo has a great system in place for all these features.

Overall

Boobs.....  What were we talking about?  Oh yeah, Domo is a great choice for a pay to play alternative.  There's much content, a great community, good support, and a lot of features to enjoy.  We left the game in high spirits and would definitely recommend Domo to anyone looking for a cartoon style spiel.  Well, even if you're not a fan of cartoony games, there's always the boobs.
